Clayton Travis Hurst, Jr., 55, of Tifton passed away on Monday, July 27, 2020, at Tift Regional Medical Center. A private family funeral service will be held for Clay on Thursday, July 30, 2020, in the Chapel of Bowen-Donaldson Home for Funerals with Elder Marty Mullis officiating. Clay will be laid to rest at Rutland Cemetery in Tifton.
Clay was born January 26, 1965 in Tifton to Travis Hurst and the late Carol Pope Hurst. Clay was a 1983 graduate of Tift County High School. He received a Bachelor of Business Administration from Augusta College and a Master of Business Administration from Georgia Southern University. He was a partner in the Hurst family business, owning and managing rental property.
As a teenager, Clay enjoyed off-road racing with his dad and brother, Clint. A successful driver, Clay contributed to numerous wins for the family team in both Georgia and Florida. As a member of Georgia Off-Road Racing Association, Clay finished first place and was the points champion in his class during the 1985 season. He was a member of the Georgia Off-Road Racing Association (GORRA) and the Florida Off-Road Driver’s Association (FORDA). He was a fan of Georgia Southern University sports; loved racing and golf; and enjoyed music by the Beatles.
Clay is survived by his father and stepmother, Travis and Brenda Hurst of Chula; brother, Clint Hurst of Tifton; sister and brother-in-law, Kim and Bill Clark of Chula; niece, Caroline Clark of Chula; nephew, Will Clark of Chula; aunt, Teresa Hurst DeLong of North Augusta, South Carolina; uncle, Traynor Hurst of Sycamore; uncle and aunt, Steve and Betty Pope Searcy of Adel; and several cousins.
