John A. Keane, 79
Retired Foxboro English Teacher

John A. Keane, 79, of Foxboro died unexpectedly on Friday February 24,2006 at the Caritas Norwood Hospital in Norwood ,MA He was the beloved husband of Arlene M. (Anderson) Keane. The couple would have celebrated 57 years of marriage today.
Born in Attleboro, MA on October 22, 1926 he was a dear son of the late Arthur L. and Angela (Chafe) Keane.
He grew up in Mansfield and was a graduate of Coyle High School in Taunton. At Coyle, he was a standout football player and acquired the nickname “ Galloping Johnny Keane”. Upon graduation he served in The U.S. Navy during WWII and was discharged with the rank of Radarman, Second Class. He then went on to graduate from both Providence College and Bridgewater State College.
He taught in The Foxboro School System as an English Teacher. He retired from the John J. Ahern School in 1984 after 21 years of service. Upon retirement he worked for 7 years at The Mansfield Bank in Mansfield in the Human Resource Department.
John was a man of devout religion and was a member of St. Marys church in Foxboro where he also served as a former CCD Teacher. His greatest reflections in life where his wife Arlene and the good fortune of having six wonderful kids and 8 grandchildren. Besides being with his family he also enjoyed reading He had lived in Foxboro for the past 50 years and was formerly of Mansfield.
In addition to his loving wife Arlene he is survived by his six devoted children Nancy A. Price of Newton, Deborah L. Sarro of Foxboro, Mary F. Sarro of Plainville, John R. “Jack” Keane of Norton, Janelle E. Lyons of Foxboro and James K. Keane of Flower Mound, Texas. His eight loving grandchildren Karen, Joe, Jim, Angela, Greg, Brendan, Kendall and Jack. Also survived by several nieces and nephews.
His funeral, to which relatives and friends are cordially invited to attend will be held on Tuesday February 28th at 8:00 A. M. from The Sherman & Jackson Funeral Home 55 North Main St. Mansfield followed by a mass of Christian burial celebrated at 9:00 A.M. in St. Marys Church, Carpenter St., Foxboro. Burial will follow with military honors in St. Marys Cemetery, Foxboro.
Visiting hours will be held on Monday February 27th from 6-9 P.M. at the funeral home
In lieu of flowers, John’s family has requested that donations in his memory be made to a favorite charity pertaining to education.
