SALEM- Michael, L. Naczas, 78, husband of Shirley R. (Curtis) Naczas, a lifelong resident of Salem until the onset of his illness in 1998, died on Sunday, July 14, 2002 at his home.
Born in Salem, he was the son of the late Samuel and Mary (Procz) Naczas.
Mr. Naczas was a Navy Veteran of WWII and attained the rating of Seaman First Class.
Prior to his retirement in 1990, he was employed for 10 years at Varian Associates in Beverly. He previously worked at the United Shoe Machine Corp in Beverly for many years.
He attended local schools, was a lifelong parishioner of the St John The Baptist Church and was a life member of the VFW. He was a well known local musician. He played the accordion and the organ, and for several years, he had his own band, The Polka Dots. He played in other local bands including the Warszawiaki Orchestra, and was a member of the musicians union in Boston as well as Local #126 in Lynn.
Besides his wife, with whom he shared 56 years of marriage, he is survived by one son, Thomas Naczas of Beverly, three daughters, Shirley and her husband Raymond Mello of Ridgeway, PA, Theresa Naczas of Beverly, Christine Appolloni of Salem, four grandchildren, David Cole of Laurens, S. Carolina, Lisa Norton of Salem, Kelly Lord of Stratham, NH, Fred Callor of Lynn and several nieces and nephews. He was the brother of the late Helen McCarthy and Henry Naczas.
His funeral service will be held on Wednesday, July 17, 2002 at 9 am from the Full-Spychalski Funeral Home, 84 Washington Square East, by Salem Common, Salem, followed by a funeral Mass at 10 am at the St John The Baptist Church, Salem. Relatives and friends respectfully invited. Visiting hours are Tuesday, 4 to 8 pm. Burial is in Greenlawn Cemetery, Salem.
