Sr. Carmelita Nichols, CSC (Sister Mary Carmelita, CSC), 96, of the Sisters of Holy Cross, 357 Island Pond Rd., Manchester, NH died February 25, 2006 at her residence.
She was born in No. Fairfax, VT on September 11, 1909, the daughter of Stanislas and Octavia (Lemay) Nichols. She entered the Congregation of the Sisters of Holy Cross in Saint Laurent, Quebec in 1927 and made her final profession in 1934. She served the Congregation for over 77 years.
Sister Carmelita obtained her BA from Notre Dame College in Manchester, NH. She taught in the elementary parochial schools under the direction of the Sisters of the Holy Cross in Clayton, NY; Nashua, Newmarket, and Manchester, NH; St. Albans, VT; and New Bedford, MA.
Sister Carmelita retired in 1987. Her retirement years were spent in Franklin, NH and at St. George Manor in Manchester. In 2003, Sister Carmelita was transferred to Holy Cross Health Center where she had resided until her death.
She is survived by her sister-in-law, Cecile Nichols of St. Albans, VT and nephews and nieces.
A Mass of Christian burial was celebrated in St. George Manor on Tuesday February 28, 2006. Burial followed in St. Augustin Cemetery.
