Salem
Elsie M. ‘Elise’ (Allain) Nowlan, passed away peacefully at Advinia Care of Salem on Tuesday, July 21, 2020 following a long illness. She was 99 and was the devoted wife of the late Alexandre H. Nowlan with whom she had shared 56 years of marriage.
Born and raised in Buctouche, New Brunswick, she was the daughter of the late Genereux and Annie (LeBlanc) Allain. Elise and her husband moved to Salem, from New Bedford in 1950. She first worked for the former Moustakis Ice Cream Parlor in Salem and with its closing she began working for Bertini’s Restaurant in Salem. She retired in 1986 with 17 years with Bertini’s . Elise devoted her life to the care of her family. She was a kind and gracious lady to all whom she encountered. She was a deeply religious and faithful member of Ste. Anne Parish in Salem. Elise was also a member of the League of Catholic Women of Ste Anne, The Child of Mary Sodality as well as the Salem Council on Aging.
She is survived by her three sons, Ronald A. Nowlan of Salem, Gerard A. Nowlan and his wife Linda of Boxford, James P. Nowlan of Salem and daughter, Anne Marie Nowlan of Salem. She also leaves three granddaughters, Linsey Nuzzo, Krista and Alexandra Nowlan as well as 3 great- grandchildren. She was predeceased by her brothers; Pius, Freddy, Alyre, Oscar, Aurelle, Edgar, Joseph & Gerard Allain and her sister Florine Bastarache.
Her funeral services will be private due to the current Covid 19 pandemic. In lieu of flowers, please consider a memorial contribution to Ste. Anne Parish, 290 Jefferson Ave., Salem, MA 01970
