Margaret M. Garnett, 93, formerly of 16 Grove Avenue, Johnston, died Friday, July 24, 2020 at Stillwater Assisted Living in Greenville. She was the widow of John E. Garnett.
Born in Providence, she was a daughter of the late Joseph and Elizabeth (Wren) Finnegan. She had lived in Johnston for almost 70 years.
She was employed by Providence College for 30 years in several different roles before becoming an executive secretary to a Vice President before retiring. She also performed charity administrative work for the Fogarty Foundation after retirement.
She enjoyed dancing, traveling and spending time with her sisters Madonna Elizabeth and Eileen, as well as her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was an avid PC Friars basketball fan as well as the Red Sox.
She was the mother of the late John J. Garnett and Nancy J. Grabowski and mother in law of the late John Grabowski . She is survived by her daughter in law, Laurie Garnett of Johnston and grandchildren: John Grabowski and his wife, Janina of Uxbridge, MA, Jason Grabowski of Johnston, RI, Michael Garnett (Sena Kilic) of Portland, Oregon and Amy Garnett (Matt Robello) of Illinois.
She was the sister of Elizabeth Mitchell of Johnston, RI and Eileen Brunell of Virginia Beach, VA and the late Madonna Gilmore. Margret is also survived by her great grandchildren Logan, Danika, Scarlett and Aleyna.
Her Mass of Christian Burial will be held Tuesday at 9:30 in Mary Mother of Mankind Church, 25 Fourth Street, North Providence. Social distancing guidelines will be followed upon your arrival at church. Visitation will be Monday 4-6pm at the Anderson-Winfield Home, Rt 44 at Greenville Common, Greenville. Due to COVID restrictions please visit the family from your vehicle via drive up virtual visitation. In lieu of flowers donations in her memory may be made to Alzheimer's Association, Rhode Island Chapter.
