James J. Couepel, 56, of Woonsocket died Sunday July 19, 2020 at home. He was the loving husband of Lyleta Kay (LaHaise) Couepel. They were married on July 4, 1997.
Born in Woonsocket, he was a son of the late Prosper and Eleanor (Wigglesworth) Couepel. James was a resident of Woonsocket for most of his life and also lived at various times in Arizona, California, Las Vegas, and Minnesota before returning to the city.
James was employed by 3D Concrete Company for many years. In his earlier years, he also worked at Paul’s Family Restaurant.
James was an avid card player especially pitch. He was a hard worker who loved to be with his family. His three kids meant the whole world to him. Some of his most enjoyable times were camping adventures.
James is survived by his wife Lyleta and his sons Jay, Lyle, Nicholas Couepel, and Michael Vadman. He was the brother of Claire Laquerre of Burrillville, Charles “Charlie” Couepel of CT, Russell Couepel and his wife Kim of Woonsocket, the late Marc, Robert “Robbie”, George “Georgie” and John Couepel. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews and extended family, including Madeleine “Nana” Ortiz of Woonsocket.
Everyone is invited to honor and remember James at calling hours on Sunday July 26, 2020 from 5-7 pm at the Menard-Lacouture Funeral Home, 127 Carrington Ave., Woonsocket. All public health guidelines (including masks, distancing, and capacity) will be required.
