John Washington Danforth, Jr., 69, of Tifton passed away Friday, July 24, 2020, at his residence. His funeral service will be held on Monday, July 27, 2020, in the Chapel of Bowen-Donaldson Home for Funerals with the Rev. Ike Branch officiating. A graveside service will be held for Mr. Danforth at 3:00 p.m. Monday, July 27, 2020, at Vickers Church Cemetery in Berrien County, where he will be laid to rest with military honors.
Julio Howell, Randy Carmichael Jr., Chad Brooks, Eric Brooks, Lamar Brooks and Ken Kelly will serve as pallbearers.
Born October 2, 1950 in Tifton, Mr. Danforth was the son of the late John Washington Danforth, Sr. and Joyce Robinson Carmichael. He served three tours of duty in Vietnam in the United States Army and received a Purple Heart for his service. He started the Tifton Chapter of the Purple Heart Association and also served as past president. He also started the Tifton Chapter of the Combat Infantry Association. He was past commander of the Disabled American Veterans and enjoyed working with other veteran organizations. He helped dedicate the Veterans Park in Omega and he attended the First Church of the Nazarene in Tifton.
Mr. Danforth is survived by his wife, Debrah Davis Danforth of Tifton; one brother and sister-in-law, Randy and Rechelle Carmichael of Lee County; two sisters and brothers-in-law, Ann and Marvin Brooks and Patricia and John Carlyle, all of Tifton; five nephews, Chad Brooks, Eric Brooks, Randy Carmichael, Jr., John Patrick and Jamie Patrick; one niece, Sarah Unangst.
