Mrs. Monica Hunter Causey, 59, of Ocilla, passed away on Sunday, July 19, 2020, at Irwin County Hospital.
Monica was born January 17, 1961 in Ocilla to Gene and Rachel Hunter and grew up in Ocilla. After graduating from Irwin County High School, Monica attended University of South Carolina at Spartanburg.
Monica began working for the United States Postal Service in 1989 in Gaffney, SC. She served in various post offices in South Carolina and South Georgia during her career. Monica set a goal to become the Postmaster in her hometown of Ocilla, and proudly achieved this goal in June 2012. After 30 years with USPS, Monica retired in March 2019. In this role, Monica was well-known and well-liked by the community.
Monica was a very active member of Ocilla Baptist Church. She was a member of the Hannah/Grace Sunday School Class and enjoyed singing in the choir with her husband, Billy Wayne.
Monica brought joy to her husband, family, and friends. She acted as a mentor to many women involved in the Church. Monica was well-read, had a quick wit and keen intellect, and enjoyed travelling throughout the country with Billy Wayne. Monica thoroughly enjoyed her life with her family and friends.
In addition to her parents, Monica is survived by her husband, Billy Wayne Causey; her son, Travis Hasty of Ocilla; her daughter, Lauren Hasty of Baltimore, Maryland; brothers Mark (Pam)Hunter of Fitzgerald; Billy Hunter of Israel; sister Ann (Felipe) Zamora of Dalton, GA; grandsons, Keegan Sheffield and Connor Hasty, both of Ocilla; nieces and nephews Alex Hunter, Lillibeth Zamora, October Hunter, Payne Hunter, Melissa Hunter Dark, and Jonathan Hunter; step-children Cindy (Bryan Golden) Epperly of Tifton; Brian (Kelly) Causey of Macon, GA; and step-grandchildren Midori Epperly, John Henry Causey, and Katherine Causey.
A memorial service will be held Friday, July 31, 2020 at 11:00 am at Ocilla Baptist Church, 201 N. Irwin Ave, Ocilla, GA. Due to COVID-19 restrictions, all are encouraged to maintain social distancing.
