New Bedford – Mario J. Marques, age 49, of New Bedford passed away on Wednesday, July 22, 2020 at home after a long chronic illness. He was the beloved son of Rosa Marques and the late João Marques.
He is survived by his loving mother, Rosa Marques of New Bedford; his sister, Cristina Raposo and her husband Christopher of Lakeville and his two nieces, Julia and Kara Raposo. He is also survived by many aunts, uncles and cousins from Rhode Island.
Mario was born in Mozambique, Africa and came to America at the age of 3. When he was 7.5 years old, he was diagnosed with a rare sarcoma in his face, in which he had undergone numerous surgeries over time.
He was a proud 1988 graduate of Greater New Bedford Regional Vocational Technical High School. Mario was known for his kind-spirit and his love of music. He loved cars, astrology and technology. He really became known for his high interest in Spiderman and all things Marvel. Mario enjoyed listening to music and playing his PlayStation whenever he could and was also a handyman around the house. His favorite sports team was the Kansas City Chiefs and he was so happy when they won the 2019 Super Bowl.
Mario most enjoyed spending time with his family, especially with his two nieces.
Mario’s visiting hours will be held on Sunday, July 26th 2020 at Perry Funeral Home from 4:00 P.M. – 7:00 P.M. His funeral will be Monday morning, beginning in the funeral home at 9:30 A.M. and followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church at 10:30 A.M. Burial will immediately follow in Rural Cemetery.
All attendees for visiting hours and church services are required by current mandated restrictions to wear a face covering and to practice social distancing of 6 feet. Attendance will be limited at both places in order to meet the mandated capacity restrictions.
