Obituary

WORCESTER-Raymond H. Mantyla, Sr., 69, of 340 Mill Street, died Saturday, July 13th in the VNA Hospice Residence after an illness. His former wife, Patricia A. (Duffy) Mantyla died in 1989. He leaves his current wife, Rosa Melida Mantyla; 2 sons, Raymond H. Mantyla, Jr. of Shrewsbury and Richard P. Mantyla of Sturbridge; 3 daughters, Doreen L. Foley of Charlton, Patricia M. Robert and Kimberly J. Mantyla both of Worcester; 2 sisters, Natalie M. Naramore of New Bern, NC and Carol A. LaPrade of Auburn; 12 grandchildren; 2 great grandchildren; many nephews and nieces. 4 brothers, Lester A., Norman D., Robert I. Mantyla and Amos O. Mantyla, Jr. predeceased him.

He was born in Winchendon the son of Amos O. Mantyla, Sr. and Evelyn (Allard) Mantyla Bartlett and lived in Worcester for most of his life. He graduated from Commerce High School and was named to both the football and track all star city teams. He was an Army veteran of the Korean Conflict. Mr. Mantyla received a Master Degree in Education from Worcester State College and worked as an administrator for the Sutton school system for over 30 years, retiring in 1991. He was an avid gardener and an active coin collector.

The funeral will be Tuesday July 16th, from O’Connor Brothers Funeral Home, 592 Park Avenue, with a mass at 10:00 AM in St. Charles Borromeo Church, 341 June Street. Burial will be in St. John’s Cemetery. Calling hours are from 5:00 until 8:00 PM Monday, July 15th in the funeral home. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to VNA Hospice Residence, 10 Judith Road, Worcester, MA, 01602.
