John Cempe, a long time resident of Medford and beloved husband of Laverne “Lee” Cempe, passed away on Wednesday, July 22, 2020 following a courageous battle with cancer.
Devoted father of Donna and her husband Tom Modica of Medford, Karen and her husband Bob Brewster of Tampa, Florida and the late Robert Cempe. Cherished grandfather of Jacqueline and her husband Jon, Jennifer and her husband Cole, Connor, Alexandra, Nicki and Jacob. Dear brother of Cliff and his wife Martha Cempe of Virginia. John is also survived by several nieces, nephews and cousins.
Born and raised in Melrose, Massachusetts, John was the beloved son of the late Gunnar and Alice (Rourke) Cempe. John was a graduate of the Melrose Public Schools. He was a proud US Air Force veteran serving from 1950 to 1954.
Throughout his life, John enjoyed ice skating and hockey, deep sea fishing, and playing golf with friends. His greatest joy was spending time with his family, friends and neighbors. He will be dearly missed.
Visitation will be held in the Beals-Geake-Magliozzi Funeral Home, 29 Governors Avenue, Medford on Friday, July 24, 2020, from 10 AM to Noon. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited. His funeral service and interment will be held privately.
