Roy Eugene Cameron, Age 72, of Rockland, died peacefully on July 16, 2020. Son of the late Woodrow R. Cameron and Susan B. (Mullen) Cameron, he was born June 16, 1948 in Wyandotte, MI and grew up in Southgate, MI. graduating from George Schafer High School in 1966.
Roy served in the Navy during the Vietnam War and continued his service with the Naval Reserve until 1996 when he retired as a Chief Petty Officer. Roy was an active member, and past Master, for over 25 years of Wampatuck Lodge A.F. and A.M. in Hanson, MA., a member of Pilgrim Chapter #89 Order of the Eastern Star, the York Rite Bodies of Brockton, MA, American Legion Post 149 Hanover, MA, VFW Post 697 Whitman, MA, and a member of the Hanson Rod & Gun Club. Roy was a past President of the Rockland JC’s and served for 20 years on the Rockland Finance Committee.
Roy worked over 40 years in the computer/electronics industry and retired from Dish Network in 2010 where he had been the Installation Manager for the Rockland/Wilmington offices.
He married his wife Diane in 1969 and moved from Michigan to Massachusetts.
Roy is survived by his loving wife and companion of 51 years, Diane (Faragher) Cameron. Father to four daughters, Lisa Huyghe of Hanson, Lynne Gould of Hanover, Dianna Kelley of Whitman, and Laurie Kimball of Hanover; Papa to five grandchildren Nicholas and Christopher Huyghe, Elizabeth (Kimball) Devlin, Ryan and Kelly Gould; Brother to Carolyn Ragsdale of Las Vegas, NV, Candace Kurbel and Gaye Rehkopf of Traverse City, MI, Patricia Mullins of Denver, CO and the late Bill McCreary of Las Vegas, NV.
Above all, Roy loved his daughters and extended family especially his two furry companions that never left his side – Pia and Papi. Roy was generous with his time and was always willing to help others. He will be greatly missed by all who knew him.
His visitation will be held on Monday July 20 from 4:00-7:00 PM in the Blanchard Funeral Chapel, Plymouth Street (Rte. 58 @ the rotary) Whitman. All other services are private.
