Betty Jane Murphy, 74, of Lowell, MA, passed away Saturday, July 11, 2020, in Town and County Health Care Center, Lowell, MA. She was born in Cambridge, MA on July 11, 1946, a daughter of Vincent and Emma (Mower) Grieco. She worked as a radiologist assistant for over 20 years at Lahey Clinic in Burlington, MA. Betty has been a caregiver throughout most of her life, caring for her mother from a young age and continuing on into the field of healthcare. Even after surviving a stroke in 2007, her compassionate nature never wavered. Betty was always helpful around the facility in which she lived, acquiring several volunteer awards. She always did all she could to make sure those around her were happy and content. Her sense of humor saw her through life's tough challenges. Betty surely had a fighting spirit. She recently faced medical difficulties most wouldn't have survived and handled it with her signature stubbornness. Betty's sweet smile brightened everyone's day, her laugh often contagious. She will surely be missed by many.
Betty was immensely proud of her three children and four grandchildren. She is survived by her son Robert James Murphy, his wife Colleen, and their two children Sarah and Sean Murphy; daughter, Cheryl (Murphy) Grant, her husband Corey, and their children, Jason and Katelyn Grant. Betty is predeceased by her son, Michael P. Murphy. Betty is also survived by her only sister, Judith (Grieco) Neill, and her husband Alvin; three nieces, Susan (Neill) Lynch, Karen (Neill) Hoppe and Cindy (Neill) Tulimieri; nephew, David Neill, and several grandnieces and grandnephews.
Following cremation, a graveside service was held Friday, July 24, 2020 at 11:00am in Pillsbury Cemetery, Hovey Rd., Londonderry, NH. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the American Stroke Association, PO Box 417005 Boston, MA 02241-7005.
