Robert C. “Bob” Hallman, 83, of Fitzgerald, Georgia, died Tuesday, July 7, 2020, at Irwin County Hospital in Ocilla, Georgia.
Graveside services will be held 11 AM, Friday, July 10, 2020 at Evergreen Cemetery in Fitzgerald, with the Rev. Dr. Richard Wright and the Rev. B.J. Funk officiating. Due to social distancing guidelines, all in attendance are encouraged to bring and wear a mask.
Mr. Hallman was born September 28, 1936, in Byron, Georgia to the late James Alfred & Mattie Mae Hamlin Hallman. His mother died shortly after his birth. He was raised by his Aunt Gladys & Uncle Oscar Brown and his Aunt Cleo & Uncle W.D. Brown. He was a 1954 graduate of Fitzgerald High School where he played baseball. Mr. Hallman served his country honorably in the United States Air Force. He worked in auto parts for many years beginning with Fitzgerald Auto Supply and later owning and operating Bob’s Auto Parts. He was a rural mail carrier for the United States Postal Service and retired from Fitzgerald Utilities. He played softball as an adult with the church league and was a football official with the Gold Leaf Association for 38 years. He was a member of the American Legion and an emeritus member of the Elks Lodge. Mr. Hallman enjoyed fishing and hunting and always had time to visit with people. He will be fondly remembered for his whistling. He was of the Baptist faith.
He is survived by his daughters: Gail Martin of Fitzgerald and Karen Williams & Scott of Fitzgerald; granddaughters and their spouses: Jennifer Wyles & Eric, Jill Rowe & T. J., Emily Nolan & Jacob and Anna Youghn & Cody; great-grandchildren: Ian Wyles, Dane Wyles, Kenley Nolan, Reed Nolan, Tanner Nolan, Everett Rowe, and Emery Rowe; his loving companion, Dot Wynn of Fitzgerald; and her family: Ellis Wynn & Susie, Crystal Freeman & Doug Luke, Will Freeman & Elizabeth, Marina Epstein & Jared, Suzanne Butler & Conner, Lamar Wynn, Audra Freeman, Thomas Freeman, and Marlee Epstein; a half-brother, Terry Hallman of Macon; and two nieces: Debra Brown Weil & Mike and Deena Brown Smith & Reese. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a son-in-law, Jim Martin and a brother, Bill Brown.
