Donald Charles Monahan 72 of Ojai, CA passed away June 20th, 2020 due to complications from long-term Type-1 Diabetes. His loving wife Allison was at his side.
Don was born January 29th, 1948 in Oxnard, CA to Dr. John and Virginia "Joan" Monahan. He was preceded in death by both parents and sister Marian Hurley (Monahan) of Granbury, TX. In addition to leaving his wife behind, he leaves behind brothers: John Monahan and sister-in-law Colleen of Cave Creek, AZ, Richard Monahan and sister-in-law Barbara of Bozeman, MT, Tom Monahan of Big Sky, MT, Mark Monahan of Butte, MT, brothers-in-law Bill and Rick Salter of Oxnard, CA, and many nieces and nephews.
Don was a life-long resident of Ventura County and graduated from Oxnard’s Santa Clara High School in 1966. He continued to maintain contact with many of his former classmates and friends. He worked for several years for Martin (Bud) Smith, doing many facets of maintenance work. Later on, he became an Electronic Technician, working in this field for over 20 years before retirement.
He met his wife at a fellowship they both belonged to and were together ever since for 33 years. He had numerous friends in this fellowship that loved and respected him. His wife and he moved to Ojai, CA 8 years ago, building their own “green” modular home, which he loved so much. He was liked by all of his neighbors, who could always rely on him for help.
Don had a vast detailed knowledge of the history and people of old Oxnard; he could name most makes and models of 1950s and 60s American automobiles; he loved most sports, especially the L.A. Dodgers. He was known for his easy-going manner, friendliness, and humor and will be deeply missed by all.
