Ernest “Ernie” Edward Carter, 67, of Tifton passed away Tuesday, June 30, 2020, at his residence. His funeral service will be held at 10:00 a.m. Friday, July 3, 2020, at Victory Baptist Church in Tifton with the Rev. Jay Kimbro officiating. Mr. Carter will be laid to rest at Oak Ridge Cemetery.
J. R. Carter, Johnny Carter and other family friends will serve as pallbearers.
Born April 17, 1953 in Pine Bluff, Arkansas, Mr. Carter was the son of the late James E. Carter and Mae Earnestine “Tena” Coats Carter. He graduated from Valdosta High School in 1972; attended North Florida Junior College; and graduated from Valdosta State University with a Bachelors degree in Drama. Before retiring, he taught school for thirty years and retired from the Tift County Board of Education in 2016. He was the director of the J. T. Reddick Players and developed music and drama productions in the elementary schools. He was awarded the Teacher of Excellence Award and he was a charter member of Victory Baptist Church in Tifton.
Mr. Carter is survived by his wife, Donna Purgason Carter of Tifton; one brother, Ken Carter of Valdosta; and a nephew, James Rouse Carter.
