Carl Elliott McDaniel, Sr., 83, of Ocilla, Georgia, died Monday, June 29, 2020, at Pruitt Healthcare in Ocilla.
Graveside services will be held 9:30 A.M., Thursday, July 2, 2020 at Spring Hill Cemetery in Irwin County with Elder Harold Roberts officiating. The family will receive friends from 4-6 Wednesday evening, July 1, 2020 at the funeral home in Ocilla.
Mr. McDaniel was born July 19, 1936, in Tattnall County, Georgia, to the late Carl Everett & Willie Allene Elliott McDaniel. He earned his Associates degree from ABAC and served his country honorably in the United States Army. Mr. McDaniel was a farmer before becoming a rural mail carrier and had an exemplary career of civil service. He was an avid reader, particularly Louis L’Amour novels. He enjoyed camping and spending summers in Maggie Valley. Mr. McDaniel was a member of Ocilla Lodge #134 F.&A.M. as well as an active member and Deacon of Spring Hill Primitive Baptist Church.
He is survived by son and daughter-in-law, Carl McDaniel, Jr. & Cindye; daughter and son-in-law, Caren & Charles Rice; grandchildren: Courtland & Taylor McDaniel, Camdyn McDaniel, Paul & Mary Ellis Rice, Rachel & Stephen Scaife, and David & Victoria Rice; and a brother, Allen & Jo McDaniel. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Ann Harper McDaniel on Friday, June 26, 2020 as well as a sister, Rosa Vivian Martin.
