Trudy “Nancy” (Yakimovicz) Nicholson, 97, of Indiana, PA and formerly of Hillsdale, PA, died Wednesday, June 24, 2020 at the Indiana Regional Medical Center in Indiana, PA.
The daughter of George and Veronica (Ciemierek) Yakimovicz, she was born on March 17, 1923 in Glen Campbell, PA. The twelfth of thirteen children, Nancy was the last surviving member of her immediate family.
Nancy was a member of the Church of the Resurrection Church, where she most recently had attended the Clymer site. However, in her early years and on into her retirement, Nancy had attended the former church in Arcadia, PA and then the parish church in Glen Campbell, PA, where she was a longtime member of the Rosary Society.
Her faith was her foundation in life. Her gift of blessing others with the warmth of her friendliness were exemplified by her actions in countless ways. For example, in her eightieth and into her ninetieth years, she participated in the church’s Meals on the Boulevard outreach mission distributing food and clothing to the homeless in downtown Pittsburgh.
Nancy married Doyle “Nick” Nicholson on February 2, 1950. They shared over fifty-seven years together until Nick’s death on August 26, 2007. Nancy would talk fondly of how she and her husband had traveled the world together.
Her working career began at the former Barnesboro Shirt Factory until she moved to be near family in Detriot, Michigan, where she became a riveter with Ford Aircraft during World War II. Possessing an innate talent for dance, she auditioned and earned a position with the June Taylor Dancers. As a dance troupe member, Nancy performed with the Radio City Rockettes at Radio City Music Hall in New York City, as well as on tv shows, nightclubs and in even at venues in Mexico.
Nancy was the former president of a health club in Houston, Texas and lastly worked as an administrative manager at a Ramada Inn.
Her enthusiasm for ancient history manifested itself in her becoming an archaeology buff. Nancy was an avid reader and enjoyed photography.
She thoroughly loved the pet dogs who graced her life and shared her home.
Nancy treasured her family, her friends and her Catholic faith.
She is survived by her numerous nieces and nephews.
Honoring her request, there will not be a viewing. An 11:00 a.m. funeral mass will be held at the Church of the Resurrection in Clymer, PA on Friday, July 3, 2020 with Fr. James B. Morley as the celebrant. Interment at the parish cemetery in Glen Campbell, PA.
