SALEM- Wladyslawa “Alice” Burba, age 93, of Salem, wife of the late Stanislaw “Stanley” Burba, died Wednesday morning, February 22, 2006 at the Kaplan Family Hospice House, Danvers, following a short illness.
Born in Poland, she was the daughter of the late Michal and Ludwiga (Hrynaskiewicz) Mieszczanski.
Prior to her retirement in the late 1970's, Mrs. Burba was the head seamstress at Empire’s Clothing Store in Salem where she worked for over 25 years.
A resident of Salem since coming to the U.S. from Poland in 1934, she was a parishioner of the St. John The Baptist Church, where she was a member of the Holy Rosary Sodality, the St. Ann Society and the St. Elizabeth Society. She was a member of the Polish Falcons, Nest #188 and the St. Joseph Society, PRCU, both of Salem.
An avid gardener and a great cook of Polish foods, she did seamstress work at home for her family and friends.
Mrs. Burba is survived by one son and daughter-in-law, Dr. Stanley J. & Janet L. Burba of Salem, 4 grandchildren and their spouses, Dr. Randall S. & Dr. Patricia Burba of N. Andover, Elaine & Matthew Fitzpatrick of Beverly, Dr. Elizabeth A. Burba and her husband Christopher Dick of Wakefield, Dr. Deborah M. Burba and her fiancee William Figulski of Salem, 5 great grandchildren, 3 sisters, Maria Mikulewicz, Leokadia “Laura” Mieszczanski, Feliksa “Phyllis” Mieszczanski, all of Salem and several nieces and nephews. She was the mother of the late Frank J. Burba, and sister of the late Feliks Mieszczanski, Joseph Mieszczanski, Stanislaw “Stanley” Mieszczanski and Franciszka Prochorski.
Her funeral service will be held Saturday, Feb. 25, 2006 at 8:45 AM from the Full-Spychalski Funeral Home, 84 Washington Square East, by Salem Common, Salem, followed by a funeral Mass at 10 AM at the St. John The Baptist Church, Salem. Visiting hours are Friday, 4 to 8 pm. Burial is in St. Mary Cemetery, Salem. Relatives and friends respectfully invited.
