Obituary

LITTLE RIVER, SC – Diane M. (Paquette) Blaney, 65, of Little River, SC and a former longtime resident of Chicopee, was Called Safely Home on Sunday, June 14, 2020. She passed into Eternal Life from her home surrounded by the care and comfort of her loving family. She was born in Holyoke on September 30, 1954, a beloved daughter of the late Roger C. and Philomena T. (Pietrocco) Paquette. She was raised in Chicopee, graduated in 1972 from Chicopee Comprehensive High School and later received an Associate’s Degree from Holyoke Community College. She was an Executive Secretary for Spalding Sports Worldwide in Chicopee and later was an Administrative Assistant at Babson Capital Management in Springfield, retiring in 2012. During her leisure time, she enjoyed cooking, knitting, crocheting and quilting. She also loved to travel, going to the theater and spending time with her many friends. She was proud of her beautifully landscaped yards with her many flowers and ornamentals. Above all, she was a beautiful, loving and compassionate wife, mother, and nana who enjoyed spending time with her cherished husband, children and grandchildren. She was a former communicant of Saint Anne Church in Chicopee and was currently a communicant of Our Lady Star of the Sea in North Myrtle Beach, SC. She leaves her beloved husband and soul mate, Douglas M. Blaney. They were married on October 13, 1973 at Saint Anne Church in Chicopee and were blessed with over 46 years of happiness together. She also leaves her three loving children, Douglas J. Blaney of Chicopee, Rebecca D. Gallagher and her husband, Jim, of Granby, and Matthew R. Blaney of Chicopee; her five cherished grandchildren, Mychal and Megan Blaney and James, Collin and Logan Gallagher; her dear brother, David Paquette and his wife, Linda, of Little River, SC; her dear sister, Beverly Spadoni and her husband, Lynn Engler, of Suffield, CT; her dear sister-in-law, Linda Paquette of Hampden; and her many dear nephews, nieces, cousins, brothers and sisters-in-law, extended family members and friends. Besides her parents, she was also predeceased by her two dear brothers, Wayne Paquette and Keith Paquette. Relatives and friends are invited to attend a Mass of Christian Burial on Monday, June 29, 2020 at 10 a.m. at Saint Anne Church, 30 College Street, Chicopee, MA 01020, (Face masks are required to enter the Church and capacity is limited to 40% per Massachusetts guidelines). Her burial will be private at a later date at the Massachusetts Veterans’ Memorial Cemetery in Agawam. Her funeral arrangements are entrusted to the St. Pierre – Phaneuf Fairview Chapels, (413-533-3307), 506 Britton Street, Chicopee, MA 01020.
