Obituary

CHICOPEE – Richard R. Belliveau, 88, of Chicopee, was Called Safely Home on Thursday, June 18, 2020. He passed into Eternal Life at Vero at South Hadley tragically from the Covid-19 Virus surrounded by all of the memories that he loved and cherished. He was born at home in Chicopee on June 2, 1932, a beloved son of the late Richard J. and Elizabeth (Cartier) Belliveau. He was raised in Chicopee, graduated from Chicopee High School and was a lifelong resident of the city. He furthered his education and had attended Springfield Technical Community College, Western New England College and Westfield State College. He was employed by the Granby Public Schools as a Computer Aided Design (CAD) Teacher at the Granby Junior Senior High School. He had also worked as a Draftsman at Combustion Engineering, Inc. in Windsor Locks, CT and a CAD Teacher at Pathfinder Regional High School in Palmer. Active in his Catholic faith, he was a communicant of the former Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary Church in Chicopee where he served as a Lector, Eucharistic Minister, Confraternity of Christian Doctrine and Right of Christian Initiation of Adults Instructor and served on the Parish Council. He currently was a communicant of Saint Anne Church in Chicopee where he also served as a Lector and Eucharistic Minister. During his leisure time, Richard enjoyed playing tennis up until the age of 80 and taught many people how to play. He also had a fascination with clocks and made many of them himself over the years. Above all, he loved spending time with family and his many friends. He was predeceased by his beloved wife and best friend, Elaine R. (Picard) Belliveau. They were married on February 23, 1957 at Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary Church in Chicopee and were blessed with over 57 years of happiness together. He leaves his two loving children, Laura A. Arbour of Chicopee and David R. Belliveau and his wife, Dianne, of Lee; his seven cherished grandchildren, Emily Chandler and her husband, Steven, David Arbour and his wife, Rachel, Patrick Arbour and his partner, Laurel Hootstein, Nicholas Arbour, Monique Belliveau and her fiancé, Darren Consolati, and Nicole and Michele Belliveau; his six cherished great-grandchildren, Ethan, Wyatt and Benjamin Chandler, Cole Arbour, Eliza Trafford and Emery Arbour; his dear sister-in-law, Amelia Belliveau of Holyoke; and his many dear nephews, nieces, cousins, extended members of the Belliveau and Picard families and friends. In addition to his parents and wife, he was predeceased by his four dear brothers, Roy R. Belliveau and his wife, Claire, Leonard Belliveau, Lionel Belliveau and his wife, Gloria, and Frederick Belliveau. His Funeral will be held on Wednesday, June 24, 2020 beginning at the St. Pierre-Phaneuf Fairview Chapels, (413-533-3307), 506 Britton Street, Chicopee, MA 01020, (funeral home will open at 8:30 a.m.), followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. at Saint Anne Church, 30 College Street, Chicopee, MA 01020, (please note that the funeral home and Church services are limited to 40% capacity, face masks must be worn and social distancing must be observed). His Burial will follow the Mass at Notre Dame Cemetery, 63 Lyman Street, South Hadley, MA 01075. His family will receive friends at the funeral home on Tuesday, June 23, 2020 from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. The funeral home parking lot is located in the rear.
