Rita J. (Laferriere) Vieira, 89, of New Bedford, passed away on Monday, June 15, 2020, at St. Luke’s Hospital. She was the daughter of the late Herve and Yvonne (Patenaude) Laferriere.
Mrs. Vieira was born in New Bedford and was a longtime resident of the city.
Survivors include: her son, James P. Vieira, and his wife, Elise (Girard) Vieira of New Bedford; her daughter, Susan Schneider of South Carolina; a brother, Arthur Laferriere of California; four grandchildren, T.J. Mello of Fairhaven, Joe Lyons of Boston, Victoria J. Vieira-Potter of Missouri, and Amy Yvonne Emde of South Carolina; four great-grandchildren, Gabriella Potter, Gus Potter, Jake Lyons, and Makenzie Lyons; and several nieces and nephews.
Her other siblings included Lucille, Edward, Georgette, Leah, Armond, Anthony, Andy, and Elena, all deceased.
Arrangements are private.
