Emil John Spanner, 77, of New Bedford, Massachusetts passed away on Sunday June 7, 2020 at Saint Luke’s Hospital.
Emil John was born November 16, 1942 in Newark, New Jersey. He was the eldest son of the late Emil and Lois (Whitten) Spanner.
John, as he preferred to be called, was as hardworking as he was charming. He loved cool cars, photography, family gatherings, lots of sunshine, gardening, deep spiritual discussions and intense political debates. He was a passionate music lover who was often heard humming to the tunes of his favorite composers. For the majority of his career life, he worked as a general manager in high fidelity and high tech. He seized opportunities to work oversees spending time in South Korea and lived with his family in Belgium for a close to a year. After returning from Europe, he and his family settled in Massachusetts. During the latter part of his life, he lived in Florida and returned to Massachusetts in 2017.
He is dearly missed by his children, Michael J. Spanner of Leominster, Elizabeth A. Spanner and her husband Benjamin H. Henshaw of Rochester, MA and Amy E. Spanner of Los Angeles, CA; his grandchildren Mackenzie E. Spanner and Lucas M. Spanner; his nieces and nephew, Heidi M. Lindgren, Eva L. Maxwell, Holly A. Lindgren and John E. Lindgren; and his cat Jimmy.
He was the eldest brother of the late Paul Douglas Spanner and Elaine Marjorie (Spanner) Lindgren.
