Lis DiChicco
Retired Medical Biller and Hairstylist
TEWKSBURY: Lis (Meldal) DiChicco, age 83, a resident of Tewksbury for 19 years, formerly of Melrose and Somerville, passed away at Lahey Clinic Medical Center on Wednesday, June 10, 2020.
She was the beloved wife of the late Giacomo “James” DiChicco.
Born in Copenhagen, Denmark of April 8, 1937, she was the daughter of the late Helge Meldal and the late Gerda (Christensen) Meldal. Lis received her education in Denmark.
Lis met her late husband in Denmark while he was serving in the U.S. Air Force. Following their marriage, she and her late husband settled in Somerville where they raised their two children, and later moved to Melrose.
She retired from the Melrose-Wakefield Hospital, where she worked as a Medical Biller. Prior to that, she was a hairstylist for Coiffure De’ Alba Salon in Somerville for over 20 years.
Lis enjoyed visiting Plainridge Park Casino, playing cards, and placing an occasional wager on horse races. She loved speaking Danish nightly with her sister Putte. Some of her grandchildren and many of their friends called her “Moomoo” (Danish for mother’s mother).
She also enjoyed spending time with her best friend Addie and her husband Bob.
Lis is survived by two children, Linda Tobin and her fiancé John Jarmalowicz of Tewksbury, and Edward DiChicco and his wife Barbara of Palm Bay, FL; her sister, Brigitte “Putte” Myre; her grandchildren, Jennifer Tobin and her boyfriend Adam O’Doherty, Michael Tobin and his girlfriend Katie Macelroy, Robin Blais and her husband Patrick, Julie Sullivan and her husband Freddy, and Dennis DiChicco and his fiancée Jackie; her great grandchildren, Matthew Tobin and Annmarie Sullivan.
She is also survived by several nieces and nephews, and other members of the DiChicco, Myre, Enos, McDaid, and Bullock families.
She was the sister of the late Preben Meldal, and longtime companion of the late Óle “Booster” Jórgensen.
A private memorial service for Lis will be held at the Farmer & Dee Funeral Home.
