Rose Marie John, 95, of South Dartmouth died Wednesday June 10, 2020 after a brief illness.
Born in New Bedford, daughter of the late Nahum and Amelia (El-Hillow) John, she lived in New Bedford before moving to Dartmouth 50 years ago.
She was a communicant of Our Lady of Purgatory Church and a member of the St. Joseph’s Sodality.
Ms. John was employed by the New Bedford Public Schools as a special education teacher and a home tutor. She also worked for the New Bedford Gas and Edison Company prior to becoming an educator.
Ms. John was a graduate of Holy Family High School. She also received a BA in English, an MA in Special Education and an MA in Reading from Bridgewater State College.
She is survived by her sister, Theresa L. John of Dartmouth and many nieces and nephews, including Christopher John and his wife Susan of Norton, Cathleen Bruno and her husband Michael of East Freetown, Suzanne John of Boston, and many grand nieces and nephews.
She was the sister of the late Marie Ann Coury, Sgt. J. Thomas John, Anne Thomas, Professor Anthony J. John, Joseph A. John and Dr. George R. John
Due to COVID restrictions, the visitation and services will be private; however, the Funeral Mass will be streamed online on Saturday, June 13 at 10:30 AM via facebook and zoom.
