Obituary

Maureen Elaine (Smith) Kane, a 10 year resident of South Boston and formerly of Medford and Charlestown, entered into eternal life on Tuesday, June 9, 2020 at home surrounded by her loved ones.

Maureen was born in Boston on September 23, 1945, a daughter of the late Thomas and Irene (Hughes) Smith. She grew up in Charlestown where she was educated at St. Catherine’s Parochial School and graduated from Charlestown High School Class of 1964. Maureen was a homemaker most of her adult life who dedicated herself to caring for her Family. She enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren and attending all of their activities. She took great pride in her children and grandchildren and their accomplishments. Maureen loved being an Aunt to her many nieces & nephews and spending time with her extended family and friends.

Maureen is the beloved wife of 53 years of William F. “Speedy” Kane. She is the devoted mother of Kristi Maureen Locke and her husband Darryl, William F. Kane III, and Nancy Irene Minucci and her husband Harry. She is the loving Nana to Michael Seamus, Brigid Flynn and Owen William Locke and Harry William and Maddie Irene Minucci. She is the beloved sister of Irene Mahan, Thomas F. Smith and his wife Constance, William R. Smith and his wife Helen, Claire Smith, Dorothea “Honey” Jacob, Katheen Swales, Kevin Smith and his wife Lynne and the late Robert and Brian Smith. Beloved Sister in law of Phylis Dechristoforo and Mark Kane. She is also survived by her many loving nieces and nephews.

We do not mourn her passing but, instead, celebrate her life and the joy she brought to all those around her.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend Maureen’s Funeral Mass on Monday, June 15, 2020 in St. Brigid’s Church, 841 East Broadway, South Boston at 10 A.M. (MASKS ARE REQIRED INSIDE CHURCH). Her burial is private.

THERE ARE NO FUNERAL HOME VISITING HOURS.
