Mary G. "BiBi" (Gonzales) Monteiro, 93, of New Bedford passed away Monday June 8, 2020 at St. Luke's Hospital. She was the wife of the late Francisco "Frank" Monteiro.
Born in Jersey City, New Jersey, the daughter of the late Matilda (Pina) Joia and John Gonzales, she had lived in New Bedford for most of her life.
Mrs. Monteiro was formerly employed as a stitcher for Kay Windsor and Cathy K Manufacturing until her retirement.
She enjoyed sewing, crocheting, playing Bingo, and cooking for her family. She had a special bond with all of her grandchildren that will always be cherished.
Survivors include three sons, Olavo Mingola and his wife Rona of Dartmouth, Daniel Mingola and his wife Terry of Acushnet, and John Monteiro of Wareham; four daughters, Tillie Fredette, Frances Fernandes, and Nancy Monteiro and her companion Peter DiPrato, all of New Bedford, and Denora Mello and her husband Jim, of Rehoboth; two stepsons, Oliviro Monteiro and his wife Carminda of Florida, and Honorio Fernandes of Brockton; a stepdaughter, Rose DosSantos of New Bedford; her brother, Ayres Gonzales and his wife Alcinda of New Bedford; her sister, Dinora Monteiro of East Providence, RI; 13 grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
She was the grandmother of the late Alexander Mingola.

Her Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Saturday June 13, 2020 at 8:45 AM at St. Lawrence Church. Burial will follow in Pine Grove Cemetery. Visiting hours will be on Friday June 12th from 4-7 PM at the Saunders-Dwyer Home for Funerals, 495 Park St., New Bedford. All attendees are required to wear face coverings and practice social distancing. The attendance limit at church will be 95 persons and capacity will also be limited at the funeral home.
