DUDLEY – Peter J. Vengryn, 90, died Friday, June 5, 2020 in Brookside Rehab & Nursing Center, Webster after a period of declining health.
He leaves his companion of over 25 years, Gloria Ferron; nephews and nieces, great-nephews and great-nieces; 2 godchildren, Elizabeth Reyna, and Kristin Mayotte. He was preceded in death by his brother, John Vengryn, his sisters, Josephine Plante, Winifred Kiwak and Mary Zoschak and a nephew Raymond Zoschak who served in Vietnam.
He was born on August 21, 1929 in Dudley, a son of Joseph and Winifred (Walicki) Wegrzyn and was a lifelong resident. He graduated from Bartlett High School in Webster in 1948, where he was captain of the 1947 varsity football team.
He served in the United States Air Force during the Korean War.
Mr. Vengryn first worked at Pratt Whitney in East Hartford as a machinist. Then, along with his best friend, he established his own company, Palmer Machine and Tool Co. in Palmer.
His favorite hobby was constructing and operating miniature train sets. He enjoyed spending time on the computer. He maintained an annual garden for many years. He always had cats as pets. Having children around him made him smile. He was affectionately known as “Peter Wabbit.”
Memorial calling hours will be held on Thursday, June 18, from 6:00 to 8:00 PM in the Sitkowski, Malboeuf & Hickey Funeral Home, 340 School Street, Webster. Private graveside services will be held at the convenience of the family. Donations in his name may be made to the Community Cat Connection, 89 Thompson Road, Webster, MA 01570.
