Obituary

Carolyn Yawn Akins, 86, of Enigma passed away Saturday, June 6, 2020, at her residence. A private funeral service will be held for Mrs. Akins on Monday, June 8, 2020, in the Chapel of Bowen-Donaldson Home for Funerals with the Rev. Pete Jones and the Rev. Steve Hand officiating. Mrs. Akins will be laid to rest at Turner Primitive Baptist Church Cemetery in Enigma.

Mrs. Akins’ grandsons, Josh Moore, Zach Moore, Michael Hand and Blake Hand will serve as pallbearers.

Born May 29, 1934 in Tift County, Mrs. Akins was the daughter of the late Lonnie Yawn and Elsie Cannady Yawn. She was also preceded in death by her husband of 63 years, Jimmy Dale Akins, who passed away in 2016; one brother, Eston Yawn; and one son-in-law, Joey Moore. Before retiring, she served as Branch Manager for 16 years at the Bank of Alapaha in Enigma, a community which she dearly loved. She was a devoted and faithful member of Enigma Baptist Church for over 60 years, where she served as the church secretary and clerk.

Mrs. Akins is survived by one son, James Akins of Augusta; two daughters, Becky Moore of Enigma and Lucy Hand of Irwinville; four grandchildren, Josh Moore, Zach Moore, Michael Hand and Blake Hand; and three great-grandchildren, Gideon Moore, Levi Hand and Cheyenne Hand.

Flowers will be accepted or memorial gifts may be made to Enigma Baptist Church, 391 South Main Street, Enigma, GA 31749.
