Obituary

…loving husband, father, grand father, great grand father, and brother
TEWKSBURY – Paul Nawossa, age 74, a lifelong resident of Tewksbury, died in the loving care of his family at his Tewksbury home, on Sunday evening, May 31. He was the beloved husband of Anna C. (Jardine) Nawossa, with whom he would have celebrated a 52nd wedding anniversary on June 22nd.
Paul was born in Lowell, the son of the late Isidore J. and Elinor G. (Nosek) Nawossa, and was raised in Tewksbury. He graduated from Tewksbury Memorial High School with the Class of 1963, where he had excelled in Football for the “Redmen” Football Squad. After working briefly for New England Telephone, he joined the U.S. Army, and served in Company B of the 142nd Signal Battalion of the 2nd Armored Division, known as the “Hell on Wheels” Division. He was honorably discharged at the rank of Sergeant.
Paul went back to “Ma Bell” and after the company break-up, continued to work as a Fiber Optic Technician for AT & T, on the maintenance of the main trans-Massachusetts long-distance optic cable.
Paul was an out-doors man and Yachtsman. He was a life member of the Palmer Cove Yacht Club in Salem, MA, and raced in the Jubilee Yacht Club series aboard the “Moondancer,” the family’s 30 foot Catalina Sailboat. He and family enjoyed many summer sail-cruises along the coast of Maine. Throughout his life he enjoyed long walks in the woods, most recently in the company of his “best friend” Jasper, the family’s Brown Labrador Retriever. He was a member of the Tewksbury Rod and Gun Club, and had served as the club’s range officer. He loved surf casting and shore fishing at Plum Island. He also enjoyed the years spent with the 495 Power Squadron , R.C. Airplane Club on the Pinnacle Street Model Airdrome in Tewksbury. Paul knew how to enjoy life, and as his large circle of friends would attest, never refused to let the little boy inside come out to play.
Paul’s family meant the world to him. He, along with Cousin “Eddie” the family's commercial lobster fisherman, and their families, instituted the annual family clam bake. For years, Paul and Eddy dug the pit, and gathered the boulders, chopped the wood, stoked the fire, smothered the hot stones in seaweed, and finally roasted the bags with a lobster, clams, potatoes and corn under a tarp, and fed the entire extended family with an authentic New England feast.
Besides his wife, he leaves three children, Mary E. Doherty and her husband James of Wilmington, Fran A. Nawossa of Tewksbury, and Christopher I. Nawossa and his wife Alyson (Adams) of Salem, NH; his grandchildren, Michael J. Doherty, Matthew J. Doherty, Shaun Doherty and his fiancé Alysha Moran, Kerrianne Doherty and her fiancée Jesse Holland, Nicholas J. Nawossa and his fiancé Jennifer Hooper, Zachary T. Young, Ethan N. Nawossa, Keira N. Fisher of Westminster; lifelong friends Jack Whitehouse of Tewksbury, Bob Gilmore of Lowell, and John Burke of Beverly; numerous cousins, nieces and nephews; and was the oldest grandson of the late Theofelia (Nawosza) Deputat.
