Dama Duverneau, 57, of Massachusetts, left Earth and entered Heaven’s gates on May 29, 2020 to be reunited with and serve alongside God. Dama fought for close to two months battling Covid-19 at Brigham and Women’s Hospital in Boston.
Dama was born on February 15, 1963 in Petion-Ville Port-au-Prince, Haiti, to Chimene Lezin and Mederic Duverne Duverneau.
Dama received his BS in Finance and Accounting Management from Northeastern University and his Master’s in General Teaching and Special Needs from Cambridge College. He was an educator at the former Hyde Park High School and East Boston High School, a real estate agent and a business owner.
Dama was an amazing husband, father, brother, uncle, nephew, grandfather, godfather and so much more, not only to his own family members, but to the Dorchester community. He was indeed the true definition of hardworking, selfless, humorous, free-spirited, joyful, loving, caring, intelligent and a social butterfly. There’s not a person Dama encountered that he couldn’t vibe and have fun with. He was loved and known by so many and that love will never fade.
Dama was passionate about a lot of things in his life, but his love for family, business, education and playing the lottery were above all else; Dama worked tirelessly to support his wife and children and would never hesitate when help was needed. He would ride the MBTA through any weather and would work close to all year round; if we allowed him to work on holidays, he would have jumped at that opportunity before we could hold him down. Dama was always playing numbers in hopes that he would win the millions and there may not have been a day that passed by in which that didn’t happen, whether he was playing for himself or his friends. Even though he never won the “lotry” as he would say, we hit the jackpot having him in our lives. He also loved watching the news and the channel never switched. Despite his true hustler attitude and mentality, he would drop everything to make sure he saw his kids graduate, attend family parties after work, celebrate his immediate family’s birthdays and find a way to send gifts to his grandchildren, even when he wasn’t able to be there. Dama’s family was his pride and joy and we will continue to honor and celebrate his life, the phenomenal man he was, and he will forever live in our hearts and minds.
Dama is survived his wife of 29 years, by his six kids and two grandkids and preceded in death by his mom (Chimene Lezin) and dad (Mederic Duverne Duverneau).
Private funeral services will be limited to immediate family due to the current Covid-19 Pandemic at the Joseph Russo Funeral Home 814 American Legion Highway, Roslindale on Thursday June 4th followed by a private burial at Oak Lawn Cemetery, Roslindale.
