William Henry "Billy" Britt Jr. passed away May 29, 2020 at his residence, he was 67 years of age.
He is survived by his only daughter, Dalyla Rene' Britt of Tampa, Florida; brothers, Monroe (Christie) Britt of Townsend, David (Debbie) Britt of Valdese, North Carolina and Shorty (Sue) Britt of Sycamore; sister, Susan Britt (Susan Frazier) of Rock Hill, South Carolina.
Billy was born October 27, 1952 in Ocilla, and was the son of William Henry Britt, Sr (2013) and Sybil Ruth Akridge Britt (2007). He grew up alongside his four siblings on the large Britt family farm located off Hwy 32, now called Britt Road.
Billy attended schools in Turner County, Sycamore thru the 8th grade and Turner County High School. After graduating, Billy went on and worked for International Harvester, ABAC, Coca-Cola Bottling Co and Target Distribution Center in Tifton. Billy also served as a member of the Georgia National Guard for a number of years.
In 1980, Billy married Cora Jane Steward of Perry, Georgia. Billy became a father in January, 1982- to his only child, Dalyla Rene' Britt, who was born in Tifton.
Billy was an avid outdoorsman. He enjoyed deer hunting, fishing, and being out in the woods whenever he could. When he wasn't hunting in Alabama, he was fishing in the local ponds and lakes catching fish for his favorite day of the week. His life skills were carpentry, painting and a long legacy of farming. Like his father- the Britt family' grew some of the best crops of cantaloupes and watermelons this side of Crisp County.
Billy's passions and hobbies included collecting arrowheads, old glass bottles and farming artifacts. You could also catch Billy playing the occasional game of pool, darts or cards with his friends on the weekends.
Billy loved listening to country and bluegrass music anytime he could. He attended concerts anytime he had the opportunity to. He even had future plans to sing Chris Stapleton's, "Broken Halos" in church one day. Billy's passions often included writing poetry, words of forgiveness and scripture from the bible.
Billy always looked forward to the annual Britt reunions held a couple times a year on the farm where all the Georgia, Florida and Alabama aunts, uncles and cousins would come to gather and congregate. Family fish frys were also common in the Britt family. Anyone who would stop by could often hear him talk about the family legacy, funny stories, and old wise tales- even if you had heard the same one several times before. :)
Throughout the years, Billy renewed his life and faith with the congregation and pastor of High Hill Baptist Church, where he was an active member. Billy attended services on Sunday where members of the church loved to hear him pray and speak on his faith in the Lord.
Billy's bold, yet brazen- social personality will be missed by many, but never forgotten.
Graveside memorial services will be held October 24, 2020 at 1PM at Bethel Baptist Church in Sycamore- where his remains will be buried near his parents in the family plot. After the services, a remembrance luncheon will be graciously provided by members of High Hill Baptist Church in the Bethel Baptist Social Hall.
In lieu of flowers as desired, the family respectfully requests any donations be made to High Hill Baptist Church or Bethel Baptist Church.
