Arlene G. (Thompson) Briggs, 97, of New Bedford, passed away on Sunday, May 31, 2020 at Jewish Convalescent Home. She was the wife of the late Arthur B. Briggs.
Mrs. Briggs was born in New Bedford, daughter of the late Arthur C. and Grace E. (Pittsley) Thompson and had been a lifelong resident of the greater New Bedford Area. She was a member of the Acushnet Historical Society and the Order of the Eastern Star, Nonquit Chapter. She attended People's Christian Church, New Bedford. Mrs. Briggs enjoyed knitting, needlepoint and reading. She was an amazing mother, grandmother, and friend and spent her life caring for others.
The family wishes to extend their gratitude to the staff at both the Royal Taber Nursing Home and the Jewish Convalescent Home for the compassionate care they gave to Mrs. Briggs.
Survivors include her son: Arthur B. Briggs, Jr. and his wife Virginia of Rochester; her daughter: Ardyth G. Bednarz and her husband Richard of Acushnet; sister: Natalie T. Tripp of Acushnet; 5 grandchildren: Jonathan, Adam, Catherine, Joshua and Rachael; along with several nieces and nephews.
She was the sister of the late Terrance W. Thompson, Garvice E. Thompson, George E. Thompson, Arthur C. Thompson, Jr., Robert W. Thompson and Barbara E. Savaria.
A graveside service will be held on Wednesday, June 3, 2020 at Riverside Cemetery, Fairhaven at 11:00 A.M.
