TEWKSBURY – “Ginny,” a well-known resident of the community and Town of Tewksbury retiree, died peacefully in the loving care of her family at her Tewksbury home, Thursday evening, May 28. She was the beloved wife of Anthony Joseph “Tony” Coviello III, with whom she would have celebrated sixty years of marriage on September 10th.
She was born in Lowell, one of eight children of the late Manuel and Bertha (Vieira) Machado, and raised in Lowell. She graduated from Lowell High School, and was honored as the Salutatorian of the Class of 1947. She met “Tony,” her future husband, at the Commodore Ballroom in Lowell, and after their wedding moved to Tewksbury in 1961. In addition to her duties as a mother of four, she began her career as a secretary at the Tewksbury Board of Health, and later became the secretary and finally the “de facto” office manager for the Tewksbury Fire Department. She retired in 2002, after twenty-eight years of service to the community.
In her earlier years, she was a championship Duck Pin Bowler at Tewksbury’s Wamesit Bowling, and seemed to be omni present at youth sporting events as the main cheering section for her children’s sports activities. In her later years, she and Tony were frequent visitors and travelers with the Tewksbury Senior Center. She was a member of St. Dorothy’s Parish in Wilmington, the Tewksbury Golden Age Club, and A.F.S.C.M.E Union.
Besides, Tony, she leaves her children, Anthony J. Coviello IV and his wife Debbie (Gluszczak) of Clinton, MA, Ret. Tewksbury Police Sgt. Christopher J. Coviello and his wife Leigh (Witmyer) of Dracut, Paula V. Erskine and her husband Keith of Tewksbury, with whom they shared their home, and Kenn T. Coviello and his wife Sabrina (James) of Andover; nine grandchildren, Victoria A. Coviello of Marlborough, Christopher Coviello of Topsfield, Courtney Coviello of Dracut, Olivia Erskine and John Erskine of Tewksbury, Amelia Coviello and Julia Coviello of Andover, Matthew Fontaine of Dracut and Crystal Hayward of Lowell; two sisters, Roselyn Machado of Lowell, and Dorothy Brown and her husband Herbert of Warwick, RI; brother-in-law, Frank Lorenzo of Lowell; sister-in-law, Delores Machado of Dracut; numerous nieces and nephews; and was predeceased by her siblings, John Machado, Mary Sousa, Joseph Machado, Rose Lorenzo, and Edward Machado.
With strict adherence to Covid-19 health precautions and social distancing rules, Visiting hours are Wednesday, June 3, from 3:00 to 7:00 p.m. in the Tewksbury Funeral Home, corner of 1 Dewey and 975 Main Sts. (Rte. 38) TEWKSBURY CENTER, Ph. (800 in MA or 978) 851 2950. Her Funeral Mass at St. Dorothy’s and burial at Tewksbury Cemetery will be private due to Archdiocesan rules and restrictions.
