Obituary

Arthur P. Carvalho, 97, of New Bedford died May 28, 2020 at Brandon Woods of New Bedford.
He was the husband of the late Pauline C. (Santos) Carvalho, with whom he shared 56 years of marriage.
Born in New Bedford, son of the late Theophilo P. and Herminia (Souza) Carvalho, he lived in New Bedford all of his life.
He was formerly employed at Rodney Metals for many years until his retirement.
Mr. Carvalho was a former communicant of St. Francis of Assisi Church.
He enjoyed woodworking, clock making and the history of New Bedford. He was an avid Boston Red Sox fan.
He served in the U.S. Army during World War II participating in the New Guinea Campaign and the Battle of Luzon. He received the Asiatic Pacific Theater Campaign Ribbon, Philippine Liberation Ribbon with one Bronze Service Star and the World War II Victory medal.
Survivors include his children, David Carvalho, Steven Carvalho, his wife Rita, Debra Gauvin, her husband Paul, and Michael Carvalho, and his wife, Karen; grandchildren, Tara Carvalho, Tim Carvalho and his wife Brandi, Kimberly Trahan and her husband Sean, Rachel Gauvin, Wesley Gauvin, Kristen Florentino, and her husband Bob; great-granddaughters, Kori Carvalho and Aaliyah Maciel, Bella and Brielle Florentino, and a great-grandson, Gregory Trahan.
He was the brother of the late Edward Carvalho.
Due to current restrictions on public gatherings, his services and burial will be private for immediate family. Arrangements are by the Saunders-Dwyer Home for Funerals, 495 Park St., New Bedford.
