Wayne’s wishes before passing away was to wait to hold his service until COVID has passed so his friends could attend. The family is now able to host his memorial almost a year after his passing even though COVID is still present…
Age 76 of Oakdale, MN, Wayne went to be with the Lord on Monday, May 25, 2020 after a brief battle with an aggressive form of lung cancer. Wayne went to be with the Lord peacefully with his family by his side. Preceded in death by his father John Spjut, his mother Lois Brodine, his brother James Spjut, his sister Patricia Ries & stepsister Sandra Land. Survived by his wife of 57 years, Cherl Lu; loving daughters Patricia Laughlin (Curtis) and Bonnie Ugro (Josef); 5 grandchildren and 6 great-grandchildren. Wayne was a loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather and friend to everyone.
Wayne was born in 1943 in St. Paul, Minnesota. He graduated from North High School. He married his wife Cherl in 1962 and began his career as a Sprinkler Fitter in 1963 becoming a member of Local 417 and worked in the field for 38 years until his retirement. Wayne loved his wife Cherl and his family very much. He especially loved hugs from all his great-grandchildren. He enjoyed life to the fullest and recently accepted Christ in his last days.
Wayne had many hobbies through the years, motorcycling, camping, and traveling out West and to Florida. He never missed deer hunting with his lifelong friend, Tom. He loved fishing especially Salmon fishing in Algoma, WI with his good friend and neighbor, Jim. He belonged to Bald Eagle Sportsmen’s Association & Ford Better Idea. He was a classic car enthusiast and loved working on cars. He looked forward to car runs with “Ford Better Idea” car club. You could always find him working in his garage refurbishing and tinkering with cars or just repairing anything mechanical. He was always available to help a friend or family member. Anyone who had the pleasure of knowing Wayne loved him. He had many friends through the years and is missed greatly especially by his loving wife, family & their dog Bootsie.
Memorial Service will be held on May 23, 2021 at 2 p.m. with visitation starting at 1 p.m.
The American Legion Post 39, 2678 7th Ave. East, North Saint Paul, MN.
