New Bedford – Daniel R. DaSilva, age 61, of New Bedford passed away on Tuesday, May 26, 2020 at St. Luke’s Hospital. He was the loving husband of Mary (Jorge) DaSilva, to whom he was happily married to for 41 years.
Born in St. Michael, Azores he was the beloved son of the late Camilo and Palmira (Oliveira) DaSilva. On February 7, 2013, Daniel had become a proud official United States Citizen.
Daniel had been employed as a top chef at St. Luke’s Hospital for almost 30 years. In 1996, he was presented with the Presidential Award for Excellence for his chowder at the Annual New Bedford Seaport Chowder Festival. He also received The Sodexho Health Care Services CARES Award in recognition of his generous spirit and his continued efforts to improve the quality of daily life for those he served.
He is survived by his wife, Mary; his children, son, Daniel DaSilva, Jr. of New Bedford, daughter, Jasmine DaSilva and her companion Nathan Chase of South Dartmouth; his sister, Mary Lou Ferreira of North Dighton; his brother, Arthur DaSilva and his wife Ursula of Dartmouth; nephews, Jeffrey Ferreira of North Dighton, Michael Ferreira of Attleboro, Everette Ferreira, Jr. and his wife Lucia of East Freetown and Arthur DaSilva, Jr. of Dartmouth; as well as his four sister-in-laws and many other family members.
He was also predeceased by his daughter, the late Monique DaSilva and his brother, the late Joao DaSilva.
Daniel’s funeral services will be private for the immediate family due to the recent mandated restrictions in regards to the Covid-19 Pandemic. The family is planning a Celebration of Daniel’s life at a later date. Please check back on our website for the update.
