She worked at Brigham and Woman Hospital, until her retirement in 1990.
Degrace’s spiritual and ministerial journey began in 1958, at the Baptist Church in Pétion-Ville,
Haïti. All of Degrace’s life was devoted to serving the Lord. She was known for her prayer
ministry, which she exercised first at Home with her children and grandchildren. She would
wake them up early to pray, and to recite a Bible verse from memory. Her prayer ministry was
also extended to other family members and even to members of her church family.. She would
call many of them every morning in order to pray with them. It was her idea to begin the day in
the presence of the Lord. That would also serve as a reminder that you are in His presence
throughout the day.
She was a member of the First Haitian Baptist Church until 1997. She then became a member of
Tabernacle Baptist Congregation, where she served as a spiritual mother and a counselor to so
many, including Mylande Edith and Pastor J. A. Alexandre, whom she affectionately called
“mon petit prince.” She was ordained as a Deaconess in the Church. She served in that role with
faithfulness and distinction until her passing into the presence of the Lord. Her presence, her
love, her words of encouragement, and her prayer ministry will be sorely missed. However, the
impact of her spiritual legacy will last for eternity.
