Stanley Raymond Ociesa passed away peacefully on May 19, 2020 to join his beloved wife of 66 years Therese D. (Obomsawin) Ociesa in the great beyond. We know when they meet again they will dance the Polka.
Stanley was born on May 8, 1928 and was the son of Stanley R. and Agnes (Nikoydan) Ociesa. His siblings were Josephine, Wanda, Nellie, Maryann and Charles Ociesa who predeceased him.
As a devoted family man Stanley held two positons during his career as a machine operator and a plaster/ tile setter. Stanley worked hard to ensure that his family had a comfortable and secure life and he was very proud that he accomplished this goal.
Stanley leaves his six children: Andrea (husband Ramon Sears), Stanley C., Dana (wife Leslie), Jon (wife Patty), Eric (wife Barbara) Gina (husband Barry Gomes). The family is very grateful to Stanley Charles for the compassionate care he gave his father for the past several years so that he could live at home. He is our hero. We are also grateful for the care that Gina and Barry gave him to ensure his basic needs were being met.
Stanley’s legacy will live on for many years as he has left eight grandchildren: Melissa (Jeffrey Oakes), Aria (Warren Sampson), Lauren (Kevin Barbosa), Jacob Ociesa, Cassandra (Casey Mahar), Karen (Robert Daniels), Danielle, Matthew and Erin Ociesa. In addition Stanley had 17 great-grandchildren and 3 great-great grandchildren.
Stanley and Terry enjoyed their trips to Western MA to visit their great grandchildren Katherine, Riley and Abby. They also travel in their early years to Florida to visit Jacob, Cassie, Danielle, Erin and Matthew. During the past 6 years he enjoyed his great grandsons Nolan and Isaac who always put a smile on his face and a twinkle in his eyes. In the warmer weather you could always find him on his front porch passing the time away with his neighbors both young and old.
One of the special endeavors of Stanley’s life was support those who were in need. He was a member of the St. Vincent Paul Society for many years and received the Marian Medal for his service from the Diocese of Fall River. During his retirement he was very active in supporting New Bedford political candidates and was the Co-Chairperson for the Council on Aging for many years. He was also proud of his football years as a member of the semiprofessional Murphy Club team of greater New Bedford.
Saunders-Dwyer Funeral Home is caring for Stanley’s arrangements. At this time there will be no services and burial will be private. At a later time the family will hold a celebration of his life.
