Archie “Gene” Austin, 88, of Anderson, passed away May 15, 2020 at Golden Living Center in Muncie following an extended illness.
He was born on August, 13, 1931 in Anderson, the son of Thelma “Pete” (Schmitt) Austin and Archie and Charleen Austin. He graduated from Anderson High School in 1950 and attended Ball State University. He served in the US Army and following that was employed with Nicholson File for 43 years, working both in Anderson and Cullman Alabama. He enjoyed dancing and music, his yearly trip in the fall to Panama City Beach, FL, and Alabama football. .
Gene was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Jane (Tooley) Austin on February 10, 2020. He was also preceded in death by his parents, a brother, Harold “Hal” Austin and his son-in-law, Dan James.
He is survived by his two children, Dana James of Anderson and Gary (Debbie) Austin of Cullman, AL; two grandchildren, Brent (Sandy) Keesling Jr. of Avon, and Natasha (Joe) Becraft of Anderson; four great grandchildren, Natalie, Makenna, Madysen, and Tyler, and several nieces and nephews.
