Shoghik Avedikian was born on June 15th, 1947 in Beirut Lebanon to Armenouhi Avakian Donabedian and the late Khatchadour Donabedian. She was the (wife of Hagop Avedikian) and beloved mother of Hovsep Avedikian, Karine Avedikian Markarian and son in law Zareh Markarian. She was sister to the late Ghougas Donabedian and his wife Marie, and is survived by her siblings Dr. Vahram and his wife Dr. Rosa Donabedian, Dr. Hratch Donabedian, Esther Asdourian and her husband Avo Asdourian. She was also aunt to Dr. Chris Khachig Donabedian and his wife Isabelle, Zepur Kassis and her husband Elie Kassis, Maria and Christian Asdourian, and great aunt to Luchia Donabedian, Chloe, Anthony and Gio Kassis. She passed away on May 16, 2020 due to complications from multiple surgeries and COVID-19 infection.
Shoghik was and has always been a passionate person, full of energy and love for her family and friends. In Lebanon, she pursued her education at St. Famille High School and was fluent in French. She then began her career as a French teacher at AGBU's Tarouhi Hagopian Secondary School and was involved in their PTA and other sister organizations. After getting married, she devoted her life to her family. She immigrated with her family to the US in 2009 where she embraced her new life in Watertown, Massachusetts. She was a talented seamstress and an even better cook who loved to bring family and friends together for holidays and other occasions whenever there was the opportunity. She was the life of the party wherever she went and a vivid storyteller. She was incredibly selfless, and would go out of her way to help those around her before she would think about herself.
Her passing on May 16, 2020 comes as a devastating loss to her family, friends and everyone who knew her. Due to COVID-19 limitations, funeral services are private. In lieu of flowers, please donate to Saint James Armenian Apostolic Church. (or any Armenian charity of your choice.)
