Obituary

Johnny Warren Sumner, 86, of Irwin County, Georgia, died Friday, May 15, 2020, at Tift Regional Medical Center in Tifton, Georgia.

Private graveside services will be held.

Mr. Sumner was born March 19, 1934, in Alamo, Georgia, to the late John Lewis & Selma Sears Sumner. He lived in the community all of his life. He farmed and was a retired bus driver with the Irwin County School System. He drove the bus for the Irwin County athletic departments. He loved participating in any sport events involving his children and grandchildren. Mr. Sumner was a member of the Ocilla Masonic Lodge #134. He served his country honorably in the United States Army. He was a member of Frank Primitive Baptist Church.

He is survived by his sons: John William “Bill” Sumner & Teresa, Jeffrey Anthony Sumner, and Paul Edward Sumner & Jodi Ott, all of Ocilla, Warren Lewis Sumner & Jaime of Tallahassee, Florida, and Joseph Martin Smith & Deborah of Hahira; grandchildren: Michael & Lacey Sumner, Blake Sumner & Lauren Smith, Cole Sumner, McKenzie Sumner, Ramsey Sumner, and Ryan Sumner; and two great-grandchildren: Macie Sumner and Layla Sumner. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of 63 years, Mary Eunice Henson Sumner; a brother Hubert Wesley Sumner, Sr. and a sister, Ann Smith Sumner.
