Framingham, where she had lived since 2013. She was born in New Bedford to William and Ethel Thompson and lived there until moving to Dartmouth in 1987.
She graduated from New Bedford High School and went on to work for Liberty Mutual and later as a legal secretary for many years. She leaves behind her three children, David of Sacramento, CA, Marcia (and husband Scot) of Cape Elizabeth, ME and Lisa (and husband Bud) of Natick. She was incredibly proud of her two grandchildren, Robert and Kate, of Natick. She was the sister of the late John Thompson of New Bedford, the late Hetty Vaughan of Dartmouth, and the late Harriet Howland of Acushnet. She is survived by nieces, nephews and a cousin, who will always remember her warmth and love for her family.
Ethel was determined to complete her bachelor’s degree, which she went on to earn at the age of 70 years old, from UMASS Dartmouth. She was a lifelong member of Trinity Methodist Church in New Bedford, prior to it closing. She later attended St Paul’s Methodist Church of New Bedford and Westport Methodist Church. She had a strong faith which guided her throughout her life. She spent many years supporting the Trinity Methodist Church of New Bedford by working in the office, and was a member of their Women’s Club and Bible Study roup. Ethel had also volunteered for hospice.
For many years, Ethel always looked forward to attending the Allen’s Neck ClamBake. She enjoyed walks at Round Hill beach in South Dartmouth. She was an avid reader and could spend hours completing Crossword Puzzles. She was known for sending cards to friends and family for any and all occasions. She could be quite competitive at Scrabble. What she loved above all else was spending time with her children and grandchildren. She will be truly missed by all who knew her.
