Lucien Chery of Randolph, Massachusetts passed away peacefully at the age of 80 on the evening of Monday May 11, 2020 at the Boston Medical Center surrounded by his beloved family. He was born on December 13, 1939 in Fonds-Verrettes, Haiti to his mother Rosairemite Derizier and his father Cherigene. He is survived by his 10 children (Rosaire, Mireille, Laurette, Twins Mirlande & Mirtha, Gladyse, Nadine, Heurteloux, Alex, and Berger), 20 Grandchildren, 5 Great-Grandchildren, and his beloved wife Alma Chery, whom he married in August 1965 at the Church “Eglise Saint Croix de Fonds Verrettes”.
Lucien grew up in the poorest country of the western hemisphere and through dedication, hard work, and his ability to manage his earnings became one of the most prominent businessmen in Port-au-Prince, Haiti. He owned a transportation company where he used buses and trucks to facilitate the transportation of individuals between provinces in the island of Hispaniola. He owned a convenient store selling food and household products to his fellow community, and to this day has several farms where he raises livestock and grows produce to sell on the market. With only a 3rd grade education, he never let others deter him from his dream, a dream that some kept telling him was too far-fetched. Everything he did was a means to provide nourishment, not only to his family, but the village where he grew up. Lucien emigrated to the United States of America with his wife on January 6, 2001.
During his downtime, he enjoyed watching television, listening to Haitian news over the radio, and sitting at the park across his home. His children and grandchildren remember him as a man who understood the importance of saving and investing in one's future. He always stressed the value of investing in your own property and had a strong desire for his loved ones to be successful. His Legacy will live on forever.
Private funeral services will be limited to immediate family due to the current Covid-19 Pandemic at the Joseph Russo Funeral Home followed by a private entombment in Saint Michael's Cemetery, Roslindale.
Funeral Mass and celebration of Lucien's life will take place at a later time.
