James Kevin Stinson-Johnson died peacefully in his Provincetown home, Monday May 11th after struggling with MSA, multiple system atrophy. He was in no pain and did not suffer.
To know Kevin was to know joy, lightness and laughter. His easy smile and easygoing nature charmed one and all. Kevin didn't care for the spotlight, mostly allowing others to be the center of attention. He was a gentleman, a good man, extremely thoughtful and kind, never seeking acknowledgment. Kevin loved plants and animals. He was a natural gardener. After 30 years working in restaurants, he jokingly liked to say "Plants don't ask questions". He truly enjoyed being an excellent server at Bubala's, the Post Office Cafe, 11 Carver Street and Bayside Betsy's before becoming a full-time landscape gardener in 2012.
Kevin moved with his husband, Tony, to Provincetown year-round in 1993. Kev had always been a magical, spiritual person and here, Kevin found that combination of magic and spirituality in abundance. Kevin embraced what he termed the "island of misfit toys" and the community loved him for it.
Kevin is survived by his loving husband of 30 years, Tony Stinson-Johnson, sisters Kathy Wenzel (Mark), Kim Rubel, Kate Raiford, brother, Kerry Stinson (Kris) and sister-in-law, Janine Stinson. Nieces and nephews, Luke Stinson (Jocelyn), Brianna Rubel (Brennan), Sarah Wenzel, Julian Raiford, Kyle Rubel (Courtney), Meghan McLeish (Kendrick), Ryan and Taylor Hedgecock, Jamison Stinson, Sam and Jack Raiford, new grand-niece Charlotte Rubel, as well as cousin Alex Pruett also survive him. His parents, Bob and Dot Stinson, brother Kenn Stinson and brother-in-law, Barry Rubel predeceased him.
Due to the current health crisis and resulting government restrictions, a Celebration of Kevin’s Life will be held at a time and date to be announced.
If desired, memorial donations in Kevin’s name may be made to the Carrie A. Seamen Animal Shelter (CASAS), 5 Sandy Hill Lane, Provincetown, MA 02657.
Thank you for loving Kevin!
