Mr. Anthony J. Marquis, a resident of Haverhill and beloved fiance of the late Claire (Gaudet) Francis, passed away following a long battle with Dementia on Monday afternoon, April 27, 2020. He was 84 years old.
Born in Peabody, Massachusetts, on July 4, 1935 and raised in Lawrence, he was the beloved son of the late Phillip and Alice (Ferrante) Marquis. Tony was a graduate of Lawrence High School, class of 1954. He had been employed by Bentley Woolen Milll of Methuen and E.J. Reimitis Radio as an installer of two-way radios and television/radio towers. Tony also worked as a Landscape Architect for many years. He was the author of many varied gardening books since 1965. He also authored "Lifetime" which was recently was published in 2012. Tony was an avid ham radio operator, a member of the Merrimack Valley Running Club, a lifeguard and enjoyed the traditionalism of the Feast of the Three Saints in Lawrence. He especially enjoyed raising Gladiola, Marigolds and cut flowers. He was a member of the Executive Board of the First United Methodist Church in Methuen, where he married his beloved late wife, Janet L. (Bentley) Marquis. He will be dearly missed by all who knew him.
Tony is survived by his loving daughter; Jill (Marquis) Anthony of Derry, New Hampshire, granddaughter Robin Anthony of Nashua, New Hampshire, step-daughter and caregiver; Joleen R. Francis of Haverhill, step-son; Douglas Francis of Hampton, New Hampshire and several nieces and nephews.
