Irene Tavares-Phillips, 90, of New Bedford, died May 6, 2020 at Brockton Hospital.
Born and raised in New Bedford, daughter of the late Joseph F. Tavares and Elvira (Lomba) Gomes, she lived in California for the past 33 years before moving to Randolph, Ma. She was formerly employed by Goodyear Tire, Hughes Aircraft and Raytheon. She was a founding member of the Cape Verdean Association of Southern California. Her passions were music, dancing, and celebrating with family and friends.
Survivors include a son, David Leitao and wife Joycelyn of Chicago; 4 daughters, Marie Mitchell and husband Samuel of Fort Worth, Kathleen Leitao and husband Michael Fernandez of Randolph, Susan Leitao and fiancé Mark Garbutt of Chicago, and Dianne Pina and husband Manuel of Easton; a sister Margaret Medina of New Bedford, 9 Grandchildren, 5 great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
She was the sister of the late Henry Tavares, Raymond Tavares, and Charlotte Senna.
Due to the current restrictions on public gatherings, her Funeral Service and burial will be private for immediate family.
