It is with sadness that we announce the death of Michael Kimmel (82), formerly of Washington, DC. He died of complications of coronavirus. Mike Kimmel was born on March 19, 1938 in Amarillo, TX and died on April 29, 2020 in Brookline, MA. He was a resident of Goddard House Assisted Living in Brookline.
Mike Kimmel had a long and distinguished career as a trial lawyer in the Civil Division of the US Department of Justice.
He graduated from Princeton University and the George Washington University Law School. He served in the US Coast Guard.
Mike enjoyed reading, sailing, hiking, and tennis. He had a dry sense of humor, a charming and dignified demeanor, and a twinkle in his eye.
He was the son of Roy I. Kimmel and Healen Hughes and is survived by his brothers, Roy I. Kimmel, Jr. of Leverett, MA and Thomas H. Kimmel of Waukegan, IL. He leaves one son, Gregory Wallace of Providence, RI and three grandchildren: Emma Fierro Wallace, Kate Fierro Wallace, and Henry Fierro Wallace. He
was married to and divorced from Freda B. Wallace of Providence, RI and Beverly Swanson of Washington, DC.
He will receive a burial at sea and there will be a small gathering to remember him at a time following the coronavirus pandemic.
