Obituary

NEW BEDFORD - Mary L. Lewin, aka Nunny, 93, was peacefully swept away from us on May 5, 2020, with the devoted nurses of Brandon Woods of Dartmouth by her side. Unfortunately, due to the Covid19 pandemic, her family was unable to be with her at her time of passing.

Nunny loved everyone from the youngest to the oldest and all creatures alike. She lived to make people smile at home and at her jobs. There was one job that she was so incredibly proud of; that was raising her great grandchildren Danisha and Duane Platt. At 18-months-old, they were left by her granddaughter Gaylene who passed away at a very young age. Her own three children, Linda, Mark and Kevin have also predeceased her.
Every person who has known her, always has felt so blessed. Nunny had such a big heart. If anyone needed a shoulder, a hug, advice, or a place to live, they would know where to go. She was so much to so many. She loved playing scrabble and Mc Donald’s hot fudge sundaes, walks in nature and just plain life. Nunny had an infectious smile and a giggle that touched everyone. Her youngest son would say “Can she get any cuter?” Her favorite saying was “No use complaining because when it comes right down to it, it doesn’t change anything.”

Nunny has truly been the matriarch of the family and has lived up to that role every day. She is survived by her loving daughter Gail who has been her sole caretaker and best friend for nearly 20 years. She also leaves behind many nieces and nephews, 11 grandchildren, 13 great grandchildren, 4 great great grandchildren, 5 daughters-in-law and many other family members and some long-lost friends.

She is now entering The Kingdom of Glory and will meet with all that have passed before her, including her earlier mentioned children, and her “favorite” son-in-law Richard Faneuf Jr.

She was one of the kindest, warmest, most positive people that you would have known and will be missed by all that knew her. We will always be reminded of her and know that she is watching over us, every time the “Queen Bee” flies by or lands on our shoulder.

The family would like to thank the nurses, doctors and other staff at Brandon Woods of Dartmouth who have been caring for and supporting her for the last 6 months and who were by her side at the end.
